FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SKILLS WORLD LIVE RADIO SHOW

1. What is the Skills World Live Radio Show? 

The show is a popular weekly podcast series that has produced over 80 episodes to date. The aim is to connect the world of Further Education through informed chat and topical debate. Our guests include ministers, members of Parliament, education leaders and external experts and authors who have a perspective to share. Our flagship sponsor, the awarding winning e-portfolio firm, OneFile, has over 1.2 million users. 

2. Why should I come on the show?

Because it’s a great way to reach a dedicated audience of people who care passionately about education, skills and broader workforce development. The fact we have asked you to appear demonstrates that our audience would love to hear what you have to say. 

3. Will I get the interview questions in advance?

No. We don’t share interview questions in advance. However, each show has a specific theme, usually couched as a question (e.g. Should we abolish GCSEs?). We invite guests with expertise to debate a question with our presenter in an informal way. Interviews are conversational. Other guests maybe invited on because they have written a book on an interesting topic or they have been involved in something that is interesting to our audience because, for example, it shows the application of new skills, technology or innovation. 

4. Will I get paid for appearing

No. We are a non-profit community online radio programme. Our work is supported via sponsorship and volunteers. 

5. How will the pre-recorded interviews work?

Our producer will agree a time for when the interview(s) with our presenter is taking place. Sometimes we may have to do a technical check so we can ensure our broadcasting platform is able to reach you. We will take no longer than 30 mins of your time usual, as all interviews are recorded remotely using your computer audio and webcam. We will send a guide to how to set up your equipment in the best possible way to capture an optimal interview performance. 

6. Can I cancel my appearance in an interview once recorded?

We ask all our guest to sign an industry standard release form before all recording takes place. 

7. Can I request a copy of the interview and use in my own communications

The broadcasts are made publicly available. Talk to our producer if you’d like any specific clips of your interview. Depending on the request, we may have to charge a fee.
